Mandangad Fort, also known as Chitradurga Fort, is a historic hill fort in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra, built by King Bhoj in the 12th century. Key features include its three sections (Mandangad, Parkot, and Jamba), a 400-year-old cannon, a Ganpati temple, and the Thorla Talav water tank. Shivaji Maharaj captured it from the Adilshahi dynasty in 1661, and the British took control in 1818.
Shivaji Maharaj's capture: In 1661, it was under Adilshahi Sardar Jaswantrao Dalvi. When Shivaji Maharaj defeated Kartalabkhan, Dalvi fled, and Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort without a fight. The fort was later held by Kanhoji Angre and the Siddi dynasty before the British captured it in 1818.
